This is my personal portfolio and research site. Sorpus GmbH is responsible for its separate company website.
Hosting
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process technical request data such as IP addresses, requested pages, request times, and browser information to deliver and secure the site. I do not maintain a separate visitor log in the application. The legal basis for providing and protecting the site is my legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Cloudflare’s privacy policy explains its handling of technical data, including retention and processing outside the European Economic Area.
Analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics uses a JavaScript beacon to collect aggregate performance and usage metrics such as page views, referrers, and browser or device type. It does not use analytics cookies or track individual visitors. Cloudflare says its Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors’ personal data. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Views and reactions
Writeup and blog pages include a view counter and emoji reactions. The site uses your IP address for rate limiting. To avoid counting repeat views, a shortened SHA-256 hash of your IP address is stored in Cloudflare KV for 24 hours. This hash is pseudonymous; it is not treated as anonymous data. Aggregate view and reaction counts remain after the hash expires. Reaction choices are sent to the site to update aggregate counts. Your own reaction preferences are stored in your browser’s localStorage until you clear the site’s data and are not sent as preferences to the server.
The legal basis for abuse prevention and aggregate engagement counts is my legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
If you email me, I process your address, message, and any information you include so I can reply. I may pass an enquiry about Sorpus services to Sorpus GmbH so it can respond. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in handling correspondence under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. I keep correspondence for as long as needed to address it and any resulting relationship, and longer where legal duties or potential legal claims require it.
Fonts, search, and external links
Fonts are hosted on this site. Search runs in your browser using a static index; search queries are not sent to the server. External sites linked here have their own privacy practices.
Your rights
Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact simon@koeck.dev. You may also lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority.
